Westie Biobank

The Westie Foundation of America (WFA) is excited to announce that we have signed an agreement with Resero Genomics to store Westie DNA.  The concept includes DNA extraction from a blood sample which will be stored in both a frozen and dry method of storage in the Resero Genomics facility in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The benefit of a biobank is to have DNA samples available for use in WFA supported research projects as well as to preserve the genetic heritage of the breed. These samples should last indefinitely and each sample can support many studies in the future. With technology advancing rapidly, we want to be in a position to take advantage of these advances to benefit the health and well-being of our breed.

Details about obtaining kits,  how to collect and document the sample(s) and how to return the samples to Resero Genomics and the paperwork to the WFA are documented below.  The data provided to the WFA will be held in a secure, confidential database and be used to select samples needed for a specific research project.
