The West Highland White Terrier Club of America

The WHWTCA is the one official American national parent breed club for Westies.  This national club is made up of Westie fanciers from all over the country and has the responsibility of setting the standard that defines a Westie. The West Highland White Terrier Club of America (WHWTCA) is a member Club of the American Kennel Club (AKC).  It holds two specialty shows, two puppy sweepstakes, and an obedience trial each year.  The club also holds agility, obedience, rally, barnhunt, earthdog and tracking tests.

Official Breed Standard of the Westie

The breed standard is the official guide by which dogs are judged at dog shows.  Each breed of dog recognized by the AKC has its own standard (written by the parent club).  The standard may specify everything from the curvature of a dog’s tail to the color of its eyes.

National Westie Rescue

The WHWTCA Rescue Committee was established on October 6, 1999, by the WHWTCA Board of Directors to recognize, aid, and promote regional and individual rescue efforts.

WestieMed, Inc., is an all-volunteer, IRS-recognized 501(c)3 non-profit corporation created to distribute financial aid toward non-routine medical expenses for West Highland White Terriers (Westies) or Westie-mixes who are abandoned, rescued, or recent adoption cases and for whom no other funding is available or is insufficient.
